Jaša Mrevlje
(just Jaša as his artistic name) was born on 22.08.1978 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Graduates at the Fine Art Academy “Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia” in Venice, Italy 2004, in 2007 finishes two year studies of postgraduate program in painting and multimedia. Works and lives in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He presented his works at the several solo (The Big Show, 2005, Kazemate Ljubljana castle; Let’s Put an End to all the Disasters, 2006, Ganes Pratt Gallery, Ljubljana; One Hit Wonder, 2007, KiBela, Maribor; etc.) and group exhibitions. In 2007 his work was nominated for the OHO award. Besides his indipendent work the collaboration with other artists is of exceptional importance for the artist. Since 1999 he also exhibits with artist group Crash in Progress (Giorgio Andreotta Caló, Peter Furlan, Jaša, Simone Settimo, Martina de Lugnani) (Dafne, 2003, Spazio Thetis, Venezia), since 2005 he is a member of artistic duo Black Star Production (with Ištvan Išt Huzjan), and at several projects he collaborates with the artist Meta Grgurevic (Cocktail problem, 2006; Open 2006, Venezia-Lido, etc.), and also with other artists (Jürgen, 2007, Museum of Modern Art, Ljubljana). Collaborates with Gallery Ganes Pratt, Ljubljana.
ABOUT WORK
Paintings, which are often used equal to other basic elements of his installations, are an essence of many different styles and painting techniques. Their context is also variable, because he gets his material from many different sources, passing from urban media images till classical portraits or other painterly elements. Jaša' s multimedia projects are usually very complex and demanding installations including performance (Radical Chic, 2007, Gallery Equrna, Ljubljana). Installations are build from elements taken within and out of the world of art and to make it's final effect with the spectator, they use visual, feeling and audio elements. The effect, that is provided by Jaša' s installations is an intensified moment of schizophrenic contemporaneity, instant changing of identities, devotedness and ideas. His art work is not based on a linear meaning. The spectator is put in a net of known, but perverted meaningful elements, which are connected between them, jet they live in a complete ideological contrast. /Petja Grafenauer Krnc – Curator of the Gallery Ganes Pratt/
ARTIST STATEMENT
The essential feature of my work is the interaction between mouldable artistic matter and real environment. Only through their synergy – intimate and public space – can one develop a figurative language, which communicates with the audience. Živi in dela v Benetkah in Ljubljani. Samostojno je svoja dela predstavil na vec odmevnih samostojnih (npr. The Big Show, 2005, Kazemate Ljubljanskega gradu; Let’s Put an End to all the Disasters, 2006, Galerija Ganes Pratt, Ljubljana, One Hit Wonder, 2007, KiBela, Maribor) in skupinskih razstavah doma in v tujini.
